Saddle fitting and saddle flocking are two distinct but related services.
Saddle fitting is evaluating how the saddle tree, panels fit the horse and how the seat size, flap length, knee and thigh blocks help (or not) the rider to sit correctly aligned in the saddle. When evaluating new saddles, demonstration rides in multiple models will help you find which saddle is right for you and your horse.
When evaluating the fit of a saddle, assessment includes examining the wool flock in the panels (looking for unevenness/condition of the wool/lumps in the wool) , checking the integrity of the tree, the condition of the billets, in addition to how the saddle is currently fitting the horse and the rider. Wool flock does compress, move, harden, absorb sweat etc with use. Additionally, horses change shape with work, layups, and maturity. The Saddle Fit evaluation may result in a recommendation to make changes to the wool flock or to modify the tree width based on current measurements.
Saddle Service/Flocking is the process of making changes to the existing wool flock in the panels. Wool is added to where it has thinned out or where there are gaps felt in the panels. Old hard wool that has balled up with sweat or compressed is removed. The end result of a saddle that has been serviced is evenly flocked panels that are symmetrical, firm and supportive- but not too hard or too soft. Generally, saddles with wool flock should be evaluated and serviced annually. This maintains the value of your investment in your saddle, as a tool to enable both you and your horse to work harmoniously.

Travel Fee: Fee will be split with each client. Travel fee will be quoted prior to appointment. This fee covers my gas & vehicle expenses of working with you at your barn. As an independent saddle fitter, I own and maintain my truck, trailer and tools - and am not on salary from any saddle manufacturer. The barn call fee covers my time, gas, and other expenses that enable me to work with you and your horse at your barn.
Evaluation of Saddle Fit: $150
I will take history for both you and your horse; conduct a symmetry and palpation evaluation; evaluate movement; take back measurements/tracings; check your current saddle; conduct a static, dynamic and ridden evaluation.
